Positions are a guide only. Neck size, height, body proportions, and pendant size affect where a necklace falls. Centimetre measurements are approximate.
Choosing your necklace length
The right length depends on where you like your jewelry to sit and whether you plan to wear it on its own or with other pieces. An adjustable chain lets you change the length to suit your neckline and the rest of your collection.
14–16 Inches
This range sits close to the neck, making it a natural choice for smaller charms and the top layer of a necklace stack. At 14 inches, the chain creates a choker look if your neck measurement allows a comfortable fit. At 16 inches, it generally sits closer to the base of the neck.
Best for: Choker styling, smaller pendants, open necklines, and the shortest layer in a stack.
16–18 Inches
A versatile range for wearing a pendant on its own or pairing it with other chains. At 16 inches, the necklace generally sits near the base of the neck, while 18 inches allows it to fall closer to or just below the collarbone.
Best for: A favourite pendant, a simple standalone necklace, or the middle layer of a stack.
18–20 Inches
This range gives a pendant more room to sit below shorter chains. At 18 inches, the necklace generally falls around the collarbone; at 20 inches, it sits a little lower on the upper chest.
Best for: Larger pendants, statement charms, and the longest layer in a necklace stack.
Try the length before you choose
Measure a piece of string to your preferred necklace length. Drape it around your neck and bring the ends together in front to see where it sits. Keep it comfortably loose, especially when trying shorter lengths.
You can also measure a necklace you already like by laying it flat and measuring from end to end, including the clasp. A pendant will hang below the chain.
Layering your necklaces
Choose different lengths so each piece has room to stand out. Around 2–4 inches between chains is a useful starting point, with extra space for larger pendants.
These examples show the lengths to set your adjustable chains to, rather than the full adjustment ranges.

A few things to consider
Your proportions
The same chain length can sit differently on different people. Use your own measurements and preferred position alongside the size chart.
Pendant size
A pendant adds length below the chain. Consider its height when choosing where you want the finished necklace to sit.
Your neckline
Try your chosen length with the tops you wear most. You may prefer the necklace to sit above the neckline or fall clearly below it.
Adjustable lengths
An adjustable chain gives you flexibility to change the position. Check the product details for the available length range and adjustment options.
